Why is my 96 suzuki king quad not accelerating?

I have a 96 Suzuki King Quad that I just recently replaced piston rings on the engine and the engine runs great. Went out today to do some riding and when I started to accelerate in 1st gear or put it in reverse it just wouldn't go and it would just start doing a weird jumping like it was trying to get into gear or something. I have no idea?
